New Textile Recycling Plant Opens in Italy
A new textile recycling facility in Italy has opened, integrating automated sorting and mechanical fibre recovery in one process.

A new €8 million textile recycling plant has opened in San Pietro Mosezzo, near Novara, Italy. Developed by the recycling company Igers, the facility combines automated sorting, mechanical fibre recovery, and digital traceability.

This plant processes both post-consumer and post-industrial textile waste, converting it into recovered fibres suitable for the spinning industry. It is the first facility in Italy to integrate all main stages of textile recycling in a single operation, from sorting to mechanical recovery.

With a processing capacity of four tons per hour, the facility represents a significant investment, including co-financing from Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The opening comes as the European textile industry faces pressure to develop recycling infrastructure due to new waste collection regulations.
The facility’s patented process addresses the challenges of textile recycling by integrating impurity separation, material sorting, and mechanical regeneration. This approach allows for better decision-making regarding material streams and their recycling routes.

Igers plans to use this facility as a base for a network of recycling operations across Italy, aiming to establish a leading technological platform in the industry.
