Precision Yarn Feeding in Modern Knitting Technology
Memminger-IRO emphasized the significance of precision yarn feeding and tension control at a recent event in Germany, showcasing advancements in electronic systems for improved fabric quality and production consistency.

Memminger-IRO, a Vandewiele company, highlighted the importance of precision yarn feeding and tension control in modern knitting technology during a presentation at The Loop – Chapter One: Medical Textiles held in Albstadt, Germany, on October 7-8, 2026.

Bennet Weisbach from Memminger-IRO discussed developments in their EFS electronic yarn feeding technology, focusing on accurate tension regulation and its integration with knitting machine control systems. The presentation outlined four essential functions of yarn feeding systems: measuring, calibrating, controlling, and stabilizing yarn tension.

The technology features a continuous control loop that regulates yarn tension based on measured tension and motor speed. Calibration methods ensure measurement accuracy, while the system adapts to various yarn characteristics, accommodating differences in elasticity and surface properties.
Memminger also showcased the system's high-speed responsiveness and the use of positive drive technology for automatic yarn winding. The presentation emphasized long-term process reliability, with a single device capable of performing millions of cycles annually, highlighting the mechanical and electronic demands placed on yarn feeding systems.

Digital connectivity was another key topic, with Memminger demonstrating how their systems integrate with machine controls to enhance process stability and traceability. The presentation concluded by positioning electronic yarn feeding devices as essential components for ensuring product quality and compliance in the textile industry.
