Polestar Introduces Signature Weave in New Electric Grand Tourer

Bcomp has partnered with Polestar to incorporate its lightweight bio-based materials into the new Polestar 5, a four-door electric grand tourer (GT). The vehicle utilizes Bcomp’s ampliTex and powerRibs technologies in the front seatbacks and tailgate structure, minimizing the use of virgin plastics.

The collaboration originated during the development of the Polestar Precept concept car and has now progressed to large-scale production for the Polestar 5. A unique ampliTex flax fabric, termed the ‘Polestar Signature Weave’, has been developed to fulfill both structural and aesthetic roles within the vehicle's interior.

This innovative material has become a key element of Polestar’s minimalist design philosophy, having been engineered and tested for durability and performance across numerous vehicles in various global markets. Polestar claims that Bcomp’s flax-based composites utilize 50% less fossil-based material and are up to 40% lighter than conventional plastics.

Furthermore, Bcomp's natural fibre composites can potentially decrease the cradle-to-gate CO2 footprint of components by up to 60%. All components supplied by Bcomp for the Polestar 5 have met rigorous automotive standards for durability, safety, UV resistance, and long-term aging performance.
